3rd June 2020 | Manor Farm, Sopworth, Wiltshire
| £24
Course Provider: Cotswolds Conservation Board
A fantastic one day course focusing on basic identification of plants in grassland and meadow habitats, involving a combination of field identification and class-room learning

Course description:  Are you interesting in learning how to identify plant species by sight?

On this course you will focus on identifying between a range of plant species associated with grassland and meadow habitats, through their appearance and botanical keys. These identification skills will be taught by a combination of field-work, involving two plant identification walks hosted by the instructor Neill Talbot of Avellana Ecology and class-room sessions directed at the species encountered on these walks, plus information about the species themselves.

What do you need to know: No prior knowledge or experience is required. This course is ideal for those who have no or very little knowledge of plant identification and want to learn more!

Instructor: Neill Talbot runs his own Ecological Consultancy, Avellana Ecology (https://www.avellanaecology.com), and also teaches a range of courses for the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM). Geoff Barker, who owns and manages Manor Farm, will also provide a brief introduction if available, to provide context for the day and an insight into the farming practices that encourage the growth of plant species encountered throughout the course. All materials and equipment provided.

What do you need to bring: You will need to bring appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear, snacks, drinks and a packed lunch. A magnifying instrument and a Notebook is also recommended, with clip-boards, hand-outs and other learning materials provided as necessary.

Times: Start: 10.00 am, Finish 16.00 pm (approximately)
