Learn some of the techniques and skills of traditional Cotswold tile roofing. No experience required.

Natural stone has been used as a method of covering roofes for many thousands of years. In the Cotswolds this is particularly evident in the stone tile roofs that coat many of its households, helping to define the quaint villages and towns that nestle within the protected landscape of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Course Description

This practical, hands-on course will enable you to gain first hand experience of shaping and dressing cotswold slate tiles, or 'slats' and inserting these onto a roof structure. Using a mock timber frame roof, constructed specifically for the course, trainees will learn about a range of skills and techniques that involved in this traditional Cotswold craft. The course will also cover aspects of working with lead, the use of oak pegs, prindle stone, the use of underlay tiles and lapping.

Set on the premises of Huntsmans Quarry, the training site is located in the stunning surroundings of the Cotswolds countryside and just 10 minutes from Stow-on-the-Wold or 25 minutes form Cirencester.

Sam Denton is a professional Cotswold tile roofer with over 15 years experience in the trade. Sam runs his own business ' Denton Roofing' which specialises in carrying out bespoke Cotswold tile roof installations and repairs. What you need to know: No previous experience is required. All tools, materials and personal protective equipment for the course is provided and included in the course fee.
