A fantastic one day introduction to the skill of stone masonry with master mason Simon Mackereth

Course description:  On this course you will obtain a fascinating introduction to the skill of stone masonry and an insight into the working techniques of this important discipline. You will learn the basic techniques of stone masonry, the tools required and how you use them. By the end of the day you can expect to have completed a simple item, whether it be a book end, door stop, or a similar object. However, the principles and techniques learnt throughout the course also apply to the restoration of old buildings, and the course is taught with this connection firmly in mind.

What do you need to know: No prior knowledge or experience is required. This course is ideal for those who have no or very little knowledge of stone carving and want to learn more! This course will involve some usage of power tools by the instructor, however, hand tools are also a vital element of stone masonry and you will gain practical experience of doing so.

Instructor: Simon Mackereth is a master mason and a member of the Guild of Stone Masons, with many years experience in this traditional craft.

What to bring on the day: All materials and equipment provided. You will need to bring appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear and a packed lunch, although there is the Cotswold Lion Cafe where food and drink may be purchased,

Course runs 9:30am to 4:30pm
