Spend 2 days mastering the basics of greenwood furniture making...and create your own bespoke stool in the process!

Course description:

Master the basics of green wood furniture making, as you craft a simple, robust and beautiful 3-legged stool from fresh logs. On this course you can learn the key skills and techniques of traditional furniture making, the history and traditions of a practice that has been ongoing for centuries and take home with your own beautiful/ comfortable creation. Perfect for beginners or if you want that extra guidance in honing your wood working skills.

The course step by step:

·         Start by choosing the wood for your stool

·         Cleave it down to make “blanks” for the legs

·         Using a shave horse and draw knife, shape them to a desired look or prepare it for the pole lathe

·         If you want turned legs next we can put them on the lathe and turn them to the desired look.

·         Next we look at your seat. You will saw it out of  a plank.

·         Shape it using an adze and travisher.

·         Once the seat is looking comfortable we can start drilling holes (mortises) in the seat

·         Then its just left to assemble and there you have it a functional, unique stool that will out live us all.
